my finished scrappy trip around the world

My scrappy trip around the world quilt is finally finished! It's quilted and bound and ready to go. And I have to tell you, this is one of my favorite quilts that I've ever made. I used Bonnie Hunter's great tutorial for the quilt blocks.

It is totally scrappy. I lost count of the number of fabrics that I used, but considering that there are 36 blocks, and each block has six fabrics, and I only repeated a few fabrics in the whole quilt, there are a lot.  Most of them are prints by Denyse Schmidt with a few of my favorite Amy Butler and Anna Maria Horner prints thrown in too. I have been hoarding some of these fabrics for a long time, and it was so much fun to finally cut into them and use them.

And here's a shot of the back. I used a medium shade of gray solid fabric with an off-centered strip of patchwork, using some of the prints that I used in the front of the quilt.

My friend Jill Montgomery of Darling Jill Quilts quilted it for me in a meandering loopy pattern, which is one of my favorite designs that she quilts.

You can see the quilting a bit better in this shot. She always does such a great job!

And here it is on our barn door. I've mentioned briefly in the past that we are in the process of moving, and one of my favorite things about the new house is that we have a barn! I've got big plans for it...I'm thinking workshops in there would be so amazing. But it needs a bit of work, so for now, it's just a great backdrop for a photo shoot.

For the binding I used a darker gray solid because I thought it went well with all of the patterns, and didn't compete with them at the same time.

This quilt is coming with me later today to Cleveland for a segment on Quilting Arts TV, so keep your eyes out for both of us during the next season. More on that later, too.
