on to the next project

Things are so incredibly busy here these days, and I'm working on lots of fun projects that I can't wait to tell you about. Some of those will be soon, but in the mean time here are a few peeks at my latest project. It's another quilt for Coats and Clark and it will be displayed in their booth at the Craft and Hobby Association Trade show in January. They asked me to design a quilt that coordinates with a crocheted afghan that they already had made, and they sent me swatches of the yarns used to make it.

The afghan is made out of hot pink, purple, olive green and tan yarns. It's always a fun challenge for me to work on a project like this because these are not necessarily my go to colors, so it pushes me out of my comfort zone when I'm designing.

I came up with a design that I think will enhance the afghan, and I'm using three prints from Amy Butler's new Alchemy line of organic fabric, Sketchbook in Cream, Imperial Paisley in Blue Sky, and Flora in Coral against a background of FreeSpirit Designer Solids in Lavender. These organic fabrics have such an amazing hand and are so incredibly soft, and I think the prints will really pop against the lavender fabric. This is unlike any quilt I've ever made before, so I'm really excited to put it together. My friend Jill Montgomery of Darling Jill Quilts will be quilting this one for me, using Coats cotton machine quilting thread. I hate that I keep giving Jill all of these projects with tight deadlines, but I'm so pleased with the work she's done so far. I'll be sure to share images of this one, along with the pattern for it, as soon as I can. Meanwhile, I have to get back to work!
