the gypsy sling

I rarely make bags for myself. I have a lot of patterns, and the best intentions to make them all someday, but I things are incredibly busy with so many other projects these days, let alone my day to day life with my husband and children, but this bag is on my short to-do list. It's the Gypsy Sling by Amy Butler and I love it. I saw my friend Amy's version this summer during our girls trip to the lake, and I fell in love with it then. Back in July. And I've been thinking about making one ever since. One of the things that I love about this pattern is that the straps can be made out of two leather belts. Genius, right?? I found these at Target for about $10 each and I think they'll look great on my finished bag.

I've been pulling together fabrics for my future sling, and I thought it was fitting to use some of Amy's fabrics for her pattern. The aqua floral above is one of my all time favorite prints. Seriously. My living room and kitchen curtains are made out of it. I just love the bright aqua and all of the other great pops of color. I think I may use it for the exterior of the bag and the Full Moon Dots in lime for the lining.

I really also like this combination. It's another contender for sure, although I'm thinking it might be a bit too blue.

I think this is another fun one. I've been holding on to that wallpaper print for quite a long time. Maybe four years or so?? I'll keep you posted on my fabric choices and my progress. I'm hoping to have the chance to start working on my bag soon!
