a new name?

For the past few months, I've been thinking about changing the name of my business and blog. I love Olive and Ollie; after all, it was a name in honor of my great-grandmother and my great-great aunt, but I associate it with my line of children's clothing and accessories, which is really not my main focus these days. Don't get me wrong, I love designing and making things for children, but I really see myself as a designer of modern quilts first and foremost. I've bought the domain heatherjones-design.com, and I think I'll be slowing transitioning to that in the next couple of weeks.

Change is never easy, but I feel like now is the time to do it. I'm getting ready to release my first line of patterns, I've got some big publications coming out, I'm taping two segments for Quilting Arts TV next week, etc. I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions on this, so if you have some, please leave me a comment or email me at olive_and_ollie at yahoo dot com. Thank you!

It's a tough one. We've chatted briefly before on this. I wouldn't mind a longer one. Will send you a note.

I can see your reasoning for wanting to change and with the things you've said I would agree now is the time. You have a lot of talent Heather and either way you go you're going to do awesome! I have my olive & Ollie bib in Rachel's keepsake box and will be able to tell her someday that it is a Heather Jones original ;)

I think if you have established clients under Olive & Ollie you might confuse them if you change you name entirely. Maybe you can do a spinoff of your name, exp: Olive & Ollie Linens - or something like that. Just my ¢2

Change can be good...and it's always exciting. Seems like you have a lot of people giving you advice and you seem to be a smart cookie, so I'm sure you'll make it work

Good luck on all your quilting projects!

Heather, that is exactly one of the branding issues I am struggling with, myself. I just bought 13 domains so I could assure myself that I would be able to switch if and when I was ready for that. We really need to compare notes and ideas!

Sounds like a good idea. Olive & Ollie will always be yours, with lots of great memories.

Sounds like a great idea to have a separate name for you children's line and your quilt line. :)

I have to admit I agree totally with what Jennwith4 said. I think it's a great idea to keep the two lines separate. Good luck in choosing a new for your quilting side.

I vote for keeping Oliver & Ollie for your children's line, and using
heatherjones for your modern quilts and blog identity.
