This is my version of Fenced In, a pattern by Elizabeth Hartman that is in her book "The Practical Guide to Patchwork." I made it as the sample for the Modern Quilting class I'm teaching beginning later this month at Sewn Studio.

I had a mini photo shoot yesterday at the Museum of Appalachia in Norris, Tennessee. We were on our way home with a visit from my in-laws and we always stop there on our way back to Ohio.

I thought it was apropros to hang the quilt, which is a modern take on the traditional Rail Fence pattern, over a split rail fence.

I even made my little helpers pose in front of the quilt for a few pictures.

Fenced In is a great pattern. The instructions are very easy to follow and the quilt came together quickly. I think it works well for both those who are new at quilting, as well as those who are more experienced who want to construct a quilt with a visually bold pattern in not a lot of time.
For my sample I used a mix of fabrics from Tula Pink's Parisville line, Anna Maria Horner's Innocent Crush, and Amy Butler's Soul Blossoms, with a Moda Bella solid as the sashing and borders, all from Sewn Studio.
