why I love Ohio in August

I love Ohio in August because you can pick up all sorts of yummy, home-grown fruits and veggies, literally on the side of the road. There are quite a few places around here that put up little produce stands in front of their houses at the peak of harvest season. This is one of my favorites and it's just about a mile from my house.

Nothing fancy, just an old farm table on the side of a state highway. Last night they only had cucumbers, giant zucchini, and fresh springs of basil, but I was there the other night and got the best cherry tomatoes!

They had lots and lots of cucumbers!

Nobody mans the stand. There is a coffee can sitting on the table where you pay by the honor system.

You can see, I think they're trying to get rid of all their cukes because they've marked them down to 10 cents a piece. I wish I had the time to make some pickles!

Gotta love Ohio in August!

Woo Hoo to Ohio in August!! I live just outside of Columbus, but I LOVE that I can drive 15 minutes into the "Country" and buy fresh stuff just like this. There is a little store where I buy FRESH Honey, so fresh, they just cut the comb and drop it right into the jar. Oh, I need to stop, my mouth is watering!

My son came home just the other day with a cucumber that was about 2 feet long and 5 inches around in the middle... He had received it from a friend. My neighbor has a large garden and we get fresh vegies from them all the time also.

I tend to kill it if I try to grow it, so I stick to buying and receiving, but there is nothing better than farm fresh vegetables!

That's awesome! We have three people in our neighborhood doing the same thing. The other day the kids and I were out riding bikes and each of them bought a squash for 25c each and put them in their bike baskets, and we had squash casserole for dinner!
