county fair time

It's the height of summer, so around here that means it's county fair time. I love going to the fair, and we've already been to two of them this year! Last week we went to the Butler County Fair in Hamilton, Ohio and I thought I'd share some of the things we saw that day with you.

I love the Arts & Crafts exhibit barn. There were so many great entries, in all sorts of categories from quilts to hooked rugs to wood carving. The barn was a bit dark inside, so the photos aren't the best, but hopefully you'll still get a sense of how many amazing things were on display.

There were so many beautiful quilts, both old and new. I especially love the vintage bright wonky pinwheel quilt above.

This cream and olive quilt was my absolute favorite of all that I saw at the fair. I love that it's clearly vintage (I'm thinking it probably dates to the 1930s, if not earlier) and yet it looks so refreshingly modern.

I've been wanting to make a wedding ring quilt for quite a while. Now, just to find the time, right? This vintage one is a beauty.

This blue and white snail trail quilt is another example of a traditional pattern that had a modern feel. So beautiful!

The exhibit barn also had lots of local plants and veggies on display. There were gorgeous cuttings of all different types of flowers.

This asiatic lily was stunning.

Gorgeous vegetables. Look at the size of those zucchini!

And tomatoes in all sizes and colors.

Award winning local honey. So pretty in the sunlight.

And my favorite part of the fair is the animals. You know, I've got a little bit of a farm girl in me after all. And so does Olivia. We loved these fluffy chickens!

This bunny looked live velvet.

Aidan made a friend with a piggy.

And Olivia was intrigued by the sheep wearing jackets.

They both thought it was pretty funny to see goats on leashes.

I hope you and your family get a chance to go to your local county fair this summer. I know we'll be heading out to a few more before the summer is over!

Looks like a fun day. I try to get to all of those events that I can. Next on my agenda is our state fair!

I'm bummed that I missed seeing the fair and the quilts.

However, yesterday I got a treat. Orville Roach was at the quilt shop in Hamilton when he brought his blue-ribbon quilt in for display.

He won the blue ribbon for his hand quilting. I've seen several of his quilts and he does a beautiful job! This was the third or fourth quilt of his that I've seen. He rocks!

Such neat quilts, I love that cream and olive one too.

Gotta love all the animals as well. Pigs and goats are so cute!
