I always start my quilt designs by sketching in a notebook and here's a peek at a new project I'm working on. I'll be using some gorgeous fabrics by Jennifer Paganelli of Sis Boom in this one, and I'm so excited to see how it turns out. Jennifer's fabrics are absolutely gorgeous, and her use of color is nothing less than amazing.
Olivia loves to help me draw, and she had the important task of helping me choose colors in my sketch. How about some green?
Here's the final sketch, completely colored in. I love the colors and think it will look even better in Jennifer's fabrics!
Do you sketch out your quilts before you start cutting and sewing? I think it's a great way to plan quilting projects, plus it's a fun record of the quilt-making process as you compare your initial drawings with the finished product.

I can't wait to get started on this one, and I'll be sure to show you pics of it when it's done!

It is going to look totally gorgeous! Yep, I color mine on paper too :)
Very pretty, indeed! I sometimes color mine first but not always :)
I actually "sketched" a quilt in Excel today to properly get the blocks and colors randomized.
Is it weird I like the first photo as a quilt design? The white space and random lines in the white blocks next to the completed ones are doing this cool deconstructed thing for me.
I've only sketched once when I was trying to make a mini quilt for a friend. Had fun coloring it and I still have the drawing. :) need to get some graph paper and markers tho! Your drawing looks so pretty can't wait to see the finished product!
Thank you, all! Heather, I like the first photo too. Maybe I'll have to play with my design once I start working with the actual fabrics!
Oooh. That's going to be gorgeous!
Very pretty! I am more of an improvisational quilter...just go with it! Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't :)
this is going to be pretty! what a great idea to check and see if you like the design and color of a quilt!
